Cuban Amazon Parrot
The Cuban amazon, as its name suggests, comes from Cuba, where it is called “Loro o Cotorra de Cuba.” It is about the same size as a pigeon and is amongst the smallest Amazon parrots. Its plumage is mainly green, with bright pinky-red cheeks and throat, white feathers around and above its eyes, and a purple-pink to dull maroon abdomen. Its primaries or outer flight feathers are blue. The different species have feathers of different colors, particularly on their face, chin and throat. They are known for their loud voices, which is said to be the loudest of all Amazon Parrots. People who are not tolerant to noise, will not do well with this parrot.
Like most larger parrots they can also be very destructive and their need to “customize their environment” needs to be redirected by providing them plenty of chewing toys and branches.
Their longevity should also be a consideration. These parrots can live to the old, ripe age of 60 to 80 years
Double Yellow-Headed Amazon Parrot
Double Yellow-Headed Amazons make wonderful, affectionate pets when hand fed and raised in captivity from a young age. Highly gifted and possessing impressive speech abilities, the Double Yellow-Headed Amazon is a charming bird that loves being the center of attention. Just be sure you have four to six hours per day to devote to care, social play, and out-of-cage time before adopting one.
